Crafted from hand-forged and polished stainless steel and silicon bronze with patina on honed black granite, ‘Boxed-In’ depicts a struggle through impediments towards transformation. It also asks the viewer to distinguish between the boundaries we impose on ourselves and the boundaries imposed by others. At once a sarcophagus and a chrysalis, ‘Boxed-In’ is an elegant riddle for a new epoch of human endeavour.

Todd Stuart is an Australian contemporary sculptor who works in three materials that ask for three different crafts: stainless steel polished to a mirror, silicon bronze finished in patina, and carved stone. The work runs from pieces that sit on a table to pieces taller than a doorway, and almost all of it is signed and made in small limited editions.
