I opened this gallery in Lahaina in March 1976, and I've been at it for over fifty years now. This landscape wall art collection runs 243 pieces from two painters who see a place completely differently: Alexei Butirskiy and Anne Packard.

Two ways of painting a place

Butirskiy works across watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, and charcoal and pencil for his originals, plus limited-edition giclées for the rest. His subjects are cities — "Our Lady of Paris," Prague's Charles Bridge, an evening in London — alongside American scenes like "Monument Valley." Editions on his prints run from 23 copies up to 395, and 103 of the prints in this room also list an artist's proof variant. Packard paints the opposite end of the same idea: a boat left alone on an empty beach in "Blue Dory," open dune scenes like "Dunes," quiet coastal light throughout. "Dunes," a large-format canvas, carries an edition of just 25.

This room runs $1,075 to $73,000, median $2,575 — a small watercolor sketch and a large oil original share the same collection. Eight pieces here are down to their last one or two — Butirskiy's "All Snowed In," "Break of Day," "Romantic Encounter" and "Daybreak," and Packard's "Garden Panorama," "Cape Light House," "A Place Leric" and "Dunes."
